About the forward deployed engineer role
What is a forward deployed engineer?
A forward deployed engineer (FDE) is a software engineer embedded with a customer to deploy a product, usually an AI system, on the customer's own data and infrastructure. Palantir created the role in the 2010s; OpenAI and Anthropic now run large FDE teams. An FDE scopes the problem, writes code on the customer's systems, validates with evals, passes security review and drives adoption. It is engineering plus consulting.
Is forward deployed engineer a good career?
For engineers who like customers and shipping, yes. a16z called it the hottest job in startups in June 2025. Indeed data via the Financial Times shows FDE postings grew about 800 percent between January and September 2025. In India, CIEL HR counted 52 organisations hiring FDEs in July 2026, up 130 percent year on year. The trade-off is travel and customer pressure; Bloomberry found 68 percent of postings mention travel.
What is the salary of a forward deployed engineer in India?
Levels.fyi reports a median of ₹17.7 L for FDEs in India with a 75th percentile of ₹42.2 L. Glassdoor India's average is roughly ₹12.9 to 14.2 L, with the 90th percentile at ₹34 to 40 L. CIEL HR reports its clients pay ₹35 to 45 L at entry and ₹70 to 90 L for senior roles, but those are AI-native and global firms. IT-services FDE practices typically pay ₹10 to 18 L.
How is an FDE different from a software engineer or AI engineer?
A software engineer builds the product; an AI engineer builds the model-powered features; a forward deployed engineer makes them work for a specific customer, inside that customer's environment, and owns adoption. FDEs spend time on discovery, scoping, SOWs, security reviews and executive demos. Bloomberry found 55 percent of FDE postings list customer work first. Technical depth is similar, but the FDE is accountable for the outcome.
About the FDE Masters course
What does the FDE course at FDE Masters cover?
The Career Program covers Python, SQL, APIs, Next.js, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, LLM fundamentals, RAG, evals, agents, MCP, enterprise integration and identity, discovery and scoping, security and compliance, delivery and adoption, then a live 2-week forward deployment. The Advanced Program covers the LLM, enterprise and consulting layers in 10 weeks for engineers who already code. Both use the Deccan Finance client throughout.
How long is the forward deployed engineer course?
The FDE Career Program is 4 months: 18 weeks, 16 teaching plus 2 practicum and placement, Monday to Friday 2 hours a day plus a Friday Customer Engagement Lab, around 180 live and 200 lab hours. The FDE Advanced Program is 2 months: 10 weeks, 8 teaching plus 2 practicum, three weekday evenings plus Saturday, around 100 live and 120 lab hours.
What projects will I build during the course?
Career Program learners complete four graded projects for Deccan Finance, a fictional mid-size NBFC: an internal ops dashboard, a reproducible Terraform and Kubernetes deployment, an enterprise agent using MCP with permission-aware RAG, and a full solution with SOW, security sign-off, UAT and executive demo. Advanced learners complete three. Everyone then does a real 2-week forward deployment with a Brolly Group business unit or Digital Brolly SME client.
What certificate do I get, and is it recognised?
Career Program graduates earn the FDE Masters Certified Forward Deployed Engineer – Associate certificate; Advanced Program graduates earn the Professional certificate. Both are issued only after passing every project, the security review and the practicum, and carry a verification ID. No FDE certification is government-mandated; employers evaluate your deployments and case study, which is why our assessments are built around real work.
Fees and payment
What are the fees of the FDE course?
The FDE Career Program costs ₹45,000 online or ₹55,000 classroom in Hyderabad. The FDE Advanced Program costs ₹30,000 online or ₹35,000 classroom. EMI options are available for both. Fees include cloud labs, API credits, recordings, all projects, the live practicum, the certificate and placement support. There are no separate exam or certificate charges.
How do these fees compare with other FDE courses in Hyderabad and India?
Public fees range widely: Cloudsoft FDE PRO ₹30,000 for 3 months, Coding Masters ₹50,000 plus GST, School of Core AI ₹65,000, IIT Roorkee via Futurense ₹49,999 plus GST online, IIT Delhi CEP ₹1,65,000 plus GST, Quality Thought ₹2,00,000 and Scaler ₹3,99,000. Hyderabad offline 3 to 4 month AI courses typically run ₹25,000 to 60,000. FDE Masters sits in that band with a live practicum included.
Is there an EMI option or refund policy?
EMI options are available for both programs; the counsellor explains tenures and partners at enrolment. Refunds follow our published refund policy: a cooling-off window of [PLACEHOLDER: X days] from batch start, after which fees are non-refundable except in cases described in the policy. Read the refund policy before paying, and ask any question at the demo class.
Eligibility
Who is eligible for the FDE Career Program?
Anyone with basic programming exposure in any language and comfort speaking with people. Final-year students, fresh graduates, developers with 0 to 2 years, and support or QA engineers moving into AI delivery are the core audience. No AI, cloud or GenAI background is required; Weeks 1 to 8 build those foundations. There is no entry exam, just a short conversation at the demo class.
Who is eligible for the FDE Advanced Program?
Engineers with 2 to 7 years of experience who can already write Python or TypeScript, query SQL, use Git and build or consume REST APIs. A 60-minute open-book assessment with four tasks confirms readiness, and you receive a written result within two working days. No LLM or agent experience is required. Data, DevOps and solutions engineers regularly qualify.
Can a non-CS graduate or career changer become a forward deployed engineer?
Yes, with realistic expectations. Any-branch graduates and career changers join the Career Program after learning basic programming. Your first role will likely be associate FDE, AI solutions engineer or an IT-services FDE practice position in the ₹6 to 18 L band, and the live practicum plus a possible internship on Brolly Software Solutions products gives you the deployment evidence employers ask for.
Placements and jobs
Does FDE Masters provide placement?
We provide placement assistance until placed for Career Program graduates and an interview pipeline for Advanced Program graduates. This includes a target-role plan, portfolio and resume reviews, mock interviews, demo day with our employer council and introductions to open roles. We do not guarantee placement, and we publish cohort outcomes, currently [PLACEHOLDER: cohort outcome statistics], on the placements page.
Which companies hire forward deployed engineers in Hyderabad and India?
In Hyderabad: Turing, Sutherland, Pulsora and EPAM, which plans more than 3,000 India hires in 2026. Nationally: TCS, targeting 5,900 to 8,900 forward-deployed AI engineers, Accenture, Coforge, Sarvam AI, Google Cloud Applied AI, Databricks and Cartesia in Bengaluru, Supervity in Mumbai, and MongoDB and Coralogix in Gurgaon. Anthropic opened a Bengaluru office in February 2026 and OpenAI has a Delhi office.
What salary can I realistically expect after the course?
Career Program graduates should expect ₹6 to 18 L for a first FDE-track role, in line with Glassdoor India's ₹12.9 to 14.2 L average for the title. Advanced Program graduates with 2 to 7 years target ₹20 to 45 L, consistent with Levels.fyi's 75th percentile of ₹42.2 L. Headline bands of ₹35 to 90 L apply to experienced hires at AI-native and global firms.
Online learning
Can I take the forward deployed engineer course online?
Yes. Both programs run live online in the same cohort and at the same time as the Hyderabad classroom batch, taught by the same trainer with the same labs, projects, Customer Engagement Lab, security review and live practicum. Sessions are recorded. The online fee is ₹45,000 for the Career Program and ₹30,000 for the Advanced Program. Details are on the online training page.
Is the online course suitable for learners in Bangalore, Chennai, Pune or abroad?
Learners anywhere in India join directly since sessions run in Indian Standard Time. Gulf-based NRIs find both schedules a close fit, Singapore and Malaysia suit the Career Program, and UK or Europe learners manage with a flexible job plus recordings. US and Canada learners should speak with us first, because live sessions fall at awkward hours and the Customer Engagement Lab needs live participation.
What do I need to attend online, and what if I miss a class?
A laptop with 8 GB RAM or more, a webcam, a microphone and a stable 10 Mbps connection. AWS sandboxes, Postgres, API credits and ServiceNow and Salesforce sandboxes are provided, so no local GPU is needed. If you miss a session, the recording is available within hours, office hours run twice a week, and lab submissions can be completed asynchronously with a recorded demo.
